Possessive Minds: The Science Behind Jealousy

February 19, 2025 - 5:00pm to 6:00pm

Please join us on Wednesday, 2/19/2025 from 5 pm – 6 pm as Dr. Bobby Hutchison presents on jealousy! Dr. Bobby Hutchison is a professor in the Psychological Sciences department at UC Merced. Please see below for additional information on his presentation:

In this lecture, I will explore jealousy through the lenses of psychology and evolutionary biology. From an evolutionary perspective, jealousy is viewed as an adaptive mechanism to maintain social bonds and promote reproductive success. Psychological research will be discussed in relation to jealousy’s intensity and expression. We will develop an awareness of how digital spaces can amplify the intensity and frequency of jealousy by increasing visibility, uncertainty, and opportunities for social comparison. My goal is to help you better understand these dynamics so that you can navigate jealousy in healthier ways in your own relationships.
