Walk-In Hours | Make an Appointment

WHEN DO I MEET WITH MY HONORS ADVISOR?

Honors Students are required to meet with their Honors Advisor at least once each semester while enrolled in the University Honors Program.

WHAT TO BRING TO AN APPOINTMENT OR WALK-IN ADVISING

  • A laptop (if you have one) - but this is optional.
  • Your questions and ideas about academic and career goals, majors and minors of interest, course sequencing, intended graduation, fulfilling University Honors Program requirements, etc.

ABOUT APPOINTMENTS

  • Appointments are 30 minutes long. Please arrive a few minutes early to check in.
  • Appointments must be scheduled online at least 24 hours in advance.
    • Use your UC Merced email when you schedule an appointment.
  • Appointments fill very quickly due to the volume of students that are served.
  • The Honors Advisor appointment calendar is open on a 3-week rolling basis during the academic year.
    • If appointments are full, check the calendar every 1-2 days for potential openings.

During an appointment, your Honors Advisor can help you:

  • Prepare an academic plan for current or future semesters, including optional summer courses
  • Discuss major, minor, and career interests
  • Identify academic support resources
  • Discuss strategies to complete remaining University Honors Program (UHP) requirements
  • Discuss strategies to complete remaining General Education (GE) requirements
  • Identify academic or co-curricular opportunities to support your personal, academic, and career goals
  • Develop ideas for next semester class registration
  • Review questions that you have after you have explored your MyDegreePath audit

ABOUT WALK-IN ADVISING

  • Walk-in advising occurs on a drop-in basis and is limited to 10-15 minutes when other students are waiting.
  • The Honors Advisor has 90 minutes of walk-in advising daily during the academic year, with longer (extended) walk-in advising at semester start and during registration.

During walk-in advising, your Honors Advisor can help you:

  • Answer quick questions (forms, deadlines, adjusting classes in current semester)
  • Address challenges that need immediate assistance, such as a family, personal, legal, or medical challenge that impacts your ability to continue in classes
